Your First Visit: All About Comfort, Happiness, and Health
At Sumner Pediatric Dentistry, we understand that a child’s first dental visit can be a new adventure. Our goal is to make it as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. During your initial visit, you and your child will meet our friendly team, tour our vibrant office, and learn about our dental care process.
What to Expect During Your Child’s First Visit
Every child is unique, and so is their first dental visit. We take an individualized approach to ensure your child feels comfortable and safe. Some children are eager and cooperative, while others may feel a little nervous—and that’s okay!
Our team meets each child where they are, whether that means taking X-rays, completing a full cleaning, or simply helping them get familiar with the office. Sometimes we polish their teeth, and sometimes we use a prophylactic toothbrush instead. Some children sit in the chair on their own, while others feel more secure in a parent’s lap. Whatever the case, we adjust our approach to build trust and create a positive foundation for future visits.
- Review of dental and medical history forms.
- Take X-rays of your child’s teeth and mouth if indicated.
- Meeting with Dr. Andy or Dr. Crystal to discuss the X-rays.
- Creating an individual treatment plan tailored to your child's needs.
- Professional cleaning and polishing of your child's teeth, or a prophylactic toothbrush cleaning if needed.
- Thorough check for cavities or early signs of tooth decay or gingivitis.
- Answering any questions you may have.
